What's Bloomin' ? Why it's June... Peonies!

When I moved into my home as a newlywed decades ago, I knew nothing about gardening, except the fact that I LOVED flowers! Still do as a matter of fact!

Cometh the spring, I was delighted to discover that I had inherited with my house, a long garden bed of fragrant and beautiful peonies!

Just as soon as the weather warms they pop their lush green think leaves and reach for the sun.

The peony is a flowering perennial plant in the genus Paaonia.

Peonies are very top heavy with big poofy gorgeous and delicate blooms.

As they grow tall, I have to get in the garden and tie back the heads otherwise the lovely flowers will fall right down into the garden bed. The massive flowers are just too top heavy for their stems!

My beautiful peony garden consists of both white and pink. The blooms are short lived but I enjoy them immensely both in the garden and cut into vases with their subtle yet lovely fragrance. The beautiful lush foliage remains behind though all summer long as a backdrop against my garden fence!

Now that my daughter has her own home, she stated "Mom I need some peonies for my garden"!  Color me happy that she wants to carry on the June tradition of these splendid old fashioned flowers. Off I go to the garden to find  baby plant for sharing!

Happy Gardening!  xo

PS: Wouldn't the stunning white peony bloom picture above be wonderful for a June bride? Yes, indeed!
