Double Button Mother of Pearl Art Deco Cufflinks |
Perhaps it is due to my starry-eyed nature that I find antique cufflinks so elegant and sentimental! Imagining a well-dressed gentleman with French cuffs embellished with handsome cufflinks conjures up a romantic evening sipping champagne and floating across the dance floor! (I think that only happens in the movies, right?) Additionally, a beautiful and feminine blouse adorned with pretty cufflinks summons images of charming clothing of bygone eras.

Two of my best-loved eras to discover and collect are the Victorian through the Art Deco Period. The Victorian Era used a button style with tab closure, the Deco Era brought a snapping link style cufflink which was highly popular in the Roaring '20's! In my opinion these antique beauties remain just as stylish and vogue today.

My favorite cufflink material from the Victorian to the Deco Era include fascinating celluloid and lustrous mother of pearl, especially in the Deco era the two were combined to create a stunning cufflink. Additionally, the Mother of Pearl was carved and inlaid with decorative metal settings or gemstones.

One of my daughter's childhood friends planned a vintage wedding. The groomsmen'a gifts chosen by the bride and her fiancé were a selection of Deco cufflinks with a green celluloid to match their college colors. It was a rewarding experience to provide the cufflinks for their special day!
